Emily Millar a Toronto based artist who finds her inspiration for painting from her experiences as a child. She would watch her mother, a ballerina, dance from the wings of the stage. She loved the lines in the dancers bodies and the gentle yet powerful movements. She wanted to capture each moment. Emily studied Art at the Toronto School of Art, Canada. The school's emphasis was on freedom and finding each student’s natural ability. This instruction allowed her to explore her style process. “I began to focus on negative space. It became less about the lines in the human form and more about creating that same momentum with blocks and layers of colour and texture. I wanted to express visually what I felt and to portray that experience by moulding the canvas”.
