Kathleen Finlay

The Barn Paintings

The barn conjures in the Canadian psyche both the passage of time and personal family histories tied to the countryside. Kathleen Finlay has returned to this motif several times in both photography and painting. This latest series consists of two barn paintings as well as an accompanying limited edition of 25 prints on archival paper.

Known for her thoughtful compositions and distinctive visual language, Kathleen continues to create pieces that invite reflection and connection. Her latest works are now available to view in the gallery.

Being creative is a life source for Kathleen Finlay. She studied fine arts, has worked as a commercial photographer, a curator and has exhibited her fine art work in Canadian and international galleries. Her artistic practice began with hand printed, toned, black and white silver prints. Since then, she has explored photography in all it’s forms, creating in recent years, large scale digital color prints and exploring painting, mostly acrylic on wood panels. In an artistic career spanning 35+ years, an underlying theme appears time and time again: a quest for beauty outside of the mundane, a desire to create her own magical narrative and a deep reverence for the natural world.
