Katy Biele

Katy is a Chilean-Canadian mixed media artist. Her work includes painting, watercolor, embroidery, and fiber-based installations. Across these mediums, colour is at the center of her practice. She is interested in color relationships, transitions, and the way colors interact with one another, as well as in creating bold, tactile textures through embroidery.

A central theme in her practice is the idea of home, shaped by her experience of living between Chile and Canada. This personal and cultural duality influences her use of materials, colour, and form, reflecting on movement, identity, belonging, and connection.

Biele’s work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Textile Museum of Canada and the National Museum of Singapore. She was a finalist in the Salt Spring National Art Prize (2023/2024) and received 3rd Place in the People’s Choice Award. Her work has also been exhibited at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Burlington, Ontario, and commissioned by private collectors and art consultants.
