Susan Friedman
Painting since 2006, my art education has been self directed, including coursework at the Toronto School of Art and the Haliburton School of the Arts, as well as numerous workshops throughout Ontario.
My art invites contemplation, focusing on the need to sit in quiet moments as a response to the intensity of the world around us. I blend figures into richly layered abstract collages, reusing and painting over old works. This process reflects our interconnectedness and shared responsibilities; we are inseparable from our contexts.
I am intrigued by the many stories that make us who we are, represented by layers of materials into which each figure is embedded. Each figure inhabits a personal landscape, whether that space is recognizable or abstract.
